We got snow!

It's only every few years that we'll get snow. The kids were pumped when they saw those first flakes come down. We ran outside to take a picture of the rarity. Thing is...it just kept coming down. We ended up with about SIX inches! I was busy all day making desserts for D's work party that evening. I made a Chocolate Trifle...

Better Than Anything Cake...

Frosted Banana Squares...

Peanut Butter Pie...

and a Strawberry Trifle.

Everything was on schedule. The house was clean, my desserts done, gifts and prizes wrapped, lights turned on, candles lit...just waiting for the party.

Meanwhile, the boys enjoyed the snow. Long gone are the days of snowmen, snowball fights and building forts. No, my boys would rather make snowballs to stick down their swimtrunks and sit on them in the hot tub. (I told my friend what they had done and she said that they'd all get pneumonia. I've been scared for days. But now that it's a few days later and no pneumonia in sight, I'm ready to post)

Or maybe make a two foot snowball to roll into the swimming pool.

Or watch G sledding down the slide. Yes, that's right. There wasn't a hill for him to slide down, so he found one. It was too dark for a picture though.

D was on his way home with the final dessert. A Dulce de Leche Cheescake from the Cheesecake Factory. He called me and said that the roads and traffic were awful and that one of his employees had just gotten in an accident. Well, all of a sudden the mood changed. I asked myself, "why are we making these girls drive in this?". D and I called the girls and asked them if they wanted to postpone the party. They all agreed that they'd rather get back home. (They were at the mall doing a game we do every year before they meet back at our house for dinner). I quickly called our caterer and asked if I could cancel our order due to the fact that we just cancelled our work party due to the weather conditions. When D arrived, we now had six desserts staring at us on the counter and no party.

The snow was so wet and heavy that we all took brooms, lacrosse sticks, mops, and paint roller extensions to the trees. The branches were really weighted down. It will be interesting to see if they repair themselves. Our favorites are the 'Alfalfa' palm trees.

Well, there's always next year for the party. But the snow was a real treat and a great memory for the boys. And way late that night, the old tradional snowball fight happened out in the cul-de-sac.

I found myself salivating as I looked through all of your gourmet desserts. Wow! I am sorry you didn't use them at your work party. Did you enjoy eating them?

The snow looked great! The kids loved watching your little videos in the hot tub and getting the snowball into the pool.

As for me...I LOVED YOUR FAMILY PICTURE! Do we get one on a Christmas card? It was seriously the most beautiful family photo I have ever seen!

So, I guess you won't be making dessert for a few days!

I would have braved the storm to eat those yummy-looking desserts! I'm glad you guys got some good snow on your end of the valley!

I also love your family picture--you all look great. I can't believe that you captured all the kids facing the same direction!
