Happiest place on Earth for whom?

D and I took the three little kids to Disneyland this past week. I don't know what the heck we were thinking by going during spring break! I'll tell you what. We weren't!!

Throughout the day I kept asking myself, "The happiest place on Earth for whom? So many kids including my own were overly tired and crying. Our feet hurt. The lines were long. The phrase, "Oh my aching back." kept coming to mind, and everything was expensive. Despite it all, we did have fun talking and laughing while waiting in those long lines, eating icecream sandwiches, meeting princesses, riding on rides, meeting Tinkerbell and friends and experiencing the whole Disney thing.

That night at dinner we asked each child what their favorite part of Disneyland was. little g responded with, "Spending the day with both of you." My heart melted as I thought back to all the times I had questioned our decision about spending the day at the happiest place on earth.

I learned right there, that it wasn't necessarily Buzz Lightyear, the princesses, the rides or the Mickey Mouse shaped icecream sandwiches that made it magical. It was about spending the time and experiencing it together. So, if that was what made it the happiest place on earth for my five year old. It was for me too.

It is funny that the only smiles from your kids is S in the top picture. Little G is so cute. He is a keeper.
I keep wanting to take Hannah. Maybe I will hold off longer.

Love to hear this blog. I am in the minority here but I do not like Disney. I would much rather take a vacation to the beach or in the mountains and just play with the kids. Waiting in lines and whiny kids are not my favorite. We've got a few more years before we have to go back. The kids aren't asking so we're not going. Good you went though.

when we went, there were so many kids crying! & there i was, after 14 hours of standing on aching feet, skipping gleefully through the hordes of people with my sister. It was the fact alone that i was at Disneyland [going alone would have been super lame!], but i was with someone i loved & we had so much fun together! Little G is right :) its about being together!
