Bottom of the totem pole

So, I heard the dreaded, "Bottom of the totem pole" phrase this week.  Any of you wives hear that from your hubbies?  I laugh with my girlfriends about it.  Not that our husbands feel as though they are at the bottom of the totem pole, but the fact that they all use the same phrase.  It must be on some sports talk radio or something.

Anyway, it does make me rethink the way that I do things, or don't do things around here.  I don't want D to feel as though he's not a priority to me and that the kids always come first.  It's easy to do you know?

It's ironic to think that D feels as though he's at the bottom of the totem pole while I feel like I'm on top like Yertle the Turtle trying to do a balancing act.  Oh, I giggle when I think about this whole Yertle the Turtle thing, but it's difficult.  I'm not going to lie.  Having a large family is difficult at times.  I won't say that it's harder than having a smaller family because I've been there before.  I haven't always had seven children.  :)  Anyway, it's not a competition of who is the busiest.  I just have several vying for my attention and have lots of needs to meet.

People often say to me, "I don't know how you do it all."  Oh dear.  Let me just say, or rather yell it from the roof top, "I DON'T!  I CAN"T!!"  Proof that my husband feels like he's last in line.

Time to make some changes I suppose.  I think I'll start by making a "honey do" list for myself of all the things he needs from me.  I can do that.

Tomorrow sounds like a good time to start because I just flung a plastic kids' plate across the living room that someone left in there to make a point.  Oh I made a point alright.  All six kids and hubby ran in to see what came crashing down.  Oh, just the glass from a large picture frame.  Lovely.

Ya, that's how we roll some days.  :)

Completely understand. Completely. My hubby is in school and working full time. Since everything we do revolves around hubby's school, it's hard to remember that when he is home I need to make him feel like he is important.

You have a great family! You are a wonderful mother, and I know you work hard. Thank you for being a great example to me.
