Loving Valentine's Day

I love Valentine's Day. Not because of the flowers that I hope to get or the hot date that I hope to go on. I love it because of all the things that you associate with Valentine's Day. I love it because of the fun things that I do not only for my sweetheart, but for my kids as well.

I've been the "Valentine Fairy" for about twelve years now. On Valentine's Day, the family wakes up to the downstairs area decorated with hearts and really neat snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. (It's really hard with ten foot ceilings!) Stuffed "love bugs" are propped on chandeliers, shelves and around the furniture. Everybody has a valentine with their name on it with a bag of candy, or a homemade cookie from me. They look forward to it every year.

I love the kooky animals that sing "Wild Thing". D has a couple of them. I'm a pushover for those crazy things.

I love red hots. Cold Stone had the best combo a few years ago. It hasn't been back since. It was cinnamon ice cream, brownies, red hots, and chocolate syrup. It was sooo yummy!

I love seeing the kids unload their boxes with their Valentines that they got at their school parties.

I love making heart pancakes, heart sandwiches, heart waffles, homemade jellyfilled donuts, or a really yummy Crescent Cristo Sandwich Loaf. (layered sandwich made with crescent rolls, turkey, ham, muenster cheese, honey, raspberry jam, and sesame seeds.)

I love listening to romantic songs with D while we lay in bed listening to his ipod with one earphone each.

I love doing a count down. I do the seven days of Valentine's Day for D. He's probably like enough already. But hey, I like doing it.

I love love notes. Love 'em!!!

I love neat love thoughts. I have them in frames around the house in February. Here are a few of my favs.

Grow old along with me. The best is yet to be.

When you love someone, all your saved-up wishes start coming out. ( I didn't mean that literally)

Kisses kept are wasted, love is to be tasted.

Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

The sound of a kiss is not so loud as that of a cannon, but it's echo lasts a great deal longer.

Love is a second life; It grows into the soul, warms every vein, and beats in every pulse.

I wasn't kissing her, I was whispering in her mouth.

See why I love Valentine's Day. I love all the heartsy,(no that's not right, I despise heart jewelry! tacky) yummy, romantic stuff. I'm off. Got to get going on my first day of Valentines for D. Have a fun week with whatever traditions you do, or maybe you'll start one.

I think you could teach a class on keeping the heat in your marriage. I'm the enrichment counselor and wish you could come out. You are a great example to me. By the way, love your hair in the first photo. ha ha.

For the seven days, I do a note of course, and then little gifts.

Jen, last time I did enrichment with you, we taught how to make homemade chocolates in Bellevue. The homemade reeses are my kids favorite to this day.

I saw this post the other day and ran out of time to comment. I love that you do all this for Valentines. I should do more...inspiring once again. I love when I was in Rapid City with you and you were in charge of a Valentine's Enrichment. I have a picture of all of the good food that you made. When I think of Valentines, I think of that wonderful time with you in Rapid City.
