Movin' on up

So, D talks about totem poles. Sometimes he mentions the fact that he feels like he's on the bottom of my totem pole. You know like, all the boys' needs before his. Me rearranging the house for the umpteen jillionth time. Playing with the girls. And....not keeping up on the ironing, or who am I kidding, the laundry, helping him out at the office, etc.

So....with it being our 19th wedding anniversary yesterday, I decided that he needed to move all the way up to the top of my totem pole. Not just yesterday because of the circumstance, but every day. I need to do better.

We stayed the night at a hotel last night and had a great time. We came home with new inside jokes which help keep us laughing and smiling until the next time. Luckily for us, it will be every month until C leaves for his mission.

I was okay with not getting a hotel even though I had toyed around with the idea. But, once I realized that it was important to him and the fact that the love of my life needed to move to the top of my totem pole, I made reservations.

We enjoyed eating out for dinner and breakfast. Dinner wasn't anything special except for those to die for macaroons that I ate five or six of. Te he. But breakfast...oh my...it was YUMMY! If you ever have a change to go to the "Hash House A Go Go", GO!! I had biscuits and gravy over mashed potatoes. We can't wait to go out for breakfast again.

D helped me around the grocery store today as we loaded the cart with all of our Thanksgiving goodies. He mentioned a cherry pie. I'm thinking to myself, "Why?" But, if it makes him happy and it's favorite pie in the world, well then, that's reason enough. I made it today and I was so excited for him to see it knowing that it would make him happy.

I was at his office yesterday where one of his newlywed employees, knowing that it was our 19th anniversary, asked me what our secret was. I quickly said, "We made a commitment and we just keep at it. You're always working at it." Then, I added one more thing. "You have to be loyal to your spouse! You don't run and tell your mom about your problems."

Got me thinking you know? It's hard to believe that I've been married long enough to give out advise. But it's a great feeling to know that I've done it. That I've done it with someone that loves me and appreciates me despite my flaws.

I love you D. I'll be making sure that you're movin on up! You're worth it.
